Encryption - MS Dynamics 365 CRM Online

Greetings!

My understanding is MS Dynamics 365 CRM online stores all data in Azure MS SQL Database and by default none of these are encrypted.

Do we have any OOB feature to keep our sensitive data encrypted?

How easy is it to achieve them? What impact it has on performance?

Regards,

Shyam

    Hi dxshyam,

In Azure, all newly created SQL databases are encrypted by default and the database encryption key is protected by a built-in server certificate. Certificate maintenance and rotation are managed by the service and requires no input from the user. Customers who prefer to take control of the encryption keys can manage the keys in Azure Key Vault.

You can refer below article to update the encryption keey for your organization data-

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Ravi,

Thanks for responding. My intention is to have some of the fields such as name, address, contact etc from Contact entity encrypted. Will this encryption happen by default If I let azure do the encryption and only if I decide to take control of the encryption from Microsoft do I need to follow the steps mentioned in your link?

    Regards,

    Shyam

    Hi Shyam,

As mentioned above, the complete database is encrypted by default. You have an option to generate the key yourself if you wish and keep it safe with you.

I am kind of getting a feeling that you are looking for field level security rather then encryption? If this is true, you can enable field security your your organization users.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../field-level-security

    Hope this helps.
