Changing SQL database name for GP

I just completed an SBF 8 to GP 2013 upgrade for 24 companies. The way SBF named the databases was SBMNN where NN is 1, 2, 3, etc. So now I have 24 databases named SBM01..SBM24. If I were to rename the databases to a more descriptive ID(INTERID) would I need to update any tables in the DYNAMCIS or GP company databases with these new IDs?

Good point folks. I will just leave the names alone unless the client really wants to invest in changing them.

The database name is "explicitly "stored in several tables, using the widely common SearchAllDB.sql script to search all database for the "CompanyName" would be considerable in assessing the degree to which manual configuration or customer scripting is applied.

    Hi Richard,

You can't just rename a database; there are all sorts of tables entries and compiled sprocs which would cause problems.

I'd recommend creating the new databases (copying access from the current ones) and then backing up and restoring the databases (as the KB article posted by Sanjay covers). After this has been done (and tested) the original numbered databases can be deleted.

Be aware that there are modules such as Fixed Assets with settings in the system database which will need to be configured manually or via custom script.
