Copying and Pasting from Word into KBA Formatting is Lost

(1) ShareShare

Hi,

When I copy and paste from a Word document into a Knowledge Base Article, most of my formatting is lost.  Bullet points end up out of order or lost and numbering ends up out or order or lost.

I've tried this in multiple browsers, IE, Chrome, Firefox, all with the same results.

Has anyone else experienced this before and if so, what is the solution?

Thank you.

    <p>This is an age old problem - word doesn't produce html and so your formatting can't be used.</p>

    Then what am I supposed to tell my content team?  Because they're telling me they have to use Microsoft Word to produce the content, which seems reasonable.

    Do you have any other solutions?

    Could they not directly author into CRM?

    They could but the editor toolbar stays at the top of the screen which is not good for editing long documents.  There is also a lack of support for inserting comments and other functionality that is present in Microsoft Word.

    I think the main challenge is that kbarticles have got separate sections depending on the template - whatever external editor you use must be able to reflect the same template sections and then when you import you need to separate up the content into the different sections.

    The content is actually xhtml - so as long as the external editor produces well formatted html then it should paste in ok. Word adds lots of additional formatting.

    I'm seeing the same problem whether I use Word, Word Online, WordPad, or Google Docs.

    It seems as if CRM itself is the culprit.

    It seems to remove bullets - but keeps other formatting like numbering bolds italics.

    Try using an HTML editor such as wusiwyg.online-toolz.com/.../wysiwyg-editor.php

    This has a paste from word option - then you'll need to select each bulleted list and click on the properties icon - then set the class of the ul to Articlesedit_article_div_secEdit RTE_list_style_position

    This will give something like:

    <ul class="Articlesedit_article_div_secEdit RTE_list_style_position">

    <li>This</li>

    <li>Works</li>

    </ul>

    Hope this helps

    How did you get on with this - any luck?

    Unfortunately no.  They refuse to use any other editor besides Microsoft Word to create the content and are demanding the ability to copy and paste from Microsoft Word into a CRM Knowledge Base article.

    I've been avoiding them like the plague.  Last time I checked they were trying to burn down the lunch room.
