Add to Report Layout Copy Dataset

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport

Hello experts,

How do I modify the Dataset of a copy of built in Business Central Reports? I have tried various approaches but when I open the query to see what fields are being pulled in the first place it's empty. My attempts to add to the list of fields have me overwriting the list of currently available fields.

Is there a way to extend the dataset in VSCode and add it that way? Or is this feature still being worked on? I have seen this thread https://community.dynamics.com/business/f/758/t/275569?pi62123=2#responses which says the target goal was October, but it was pushed back?

Any kind of word you could provide on this matter would be very helpful, thanks.

So strange. In the Base Application source code folder you should see all the standard objects (so all reports). I suggest you to extract the source code from the container as described here:

    demiliani.com/.../

and then check from VS Code if your report is present (Go To File menu).

Hello Stefano, I'm revisiting this after much time has passed. If I'm not mistaken the Docker Container environment(s) have done away with the C-Side and Nav client and I am left looking for a new solution.

I have seen a folder in my environment with a list of reports (AL and .rdlc) but I am noticing not all of the reports seem to be here.

I tried to use GO-TO Definition on the report I wanted hoping it would be as easy as copying and pasting, but no luck (I can't jump to any report code).

If you could assist me again that would be much appreciated.

Hello! I only get the option to export it either as .rdl or .doc format. There is not txt format. Why do you think it is so? Also, where do you get the txt2AL converter? Thanks for the help!

You need to design the dataset in AL. The RDLC layout must then be edited with Report Builder or Visual Studio. This post could help you:

Hello Stefano, thanks for your help with my earlier issue. I have a question about what I do now with my RDLC and AL file. I have made modifications on the AL File to add what I want to the dataset. Do I now need to build the project and add the RDLC into Report Layouts? Or do I add the AL Code and do something with that? If you have any advice (Or a link(s) to some places I can read more about this) I would appreciate that very much.

To modify a standard report dataset, today you need to use a local sandbox (docker based), export the report as txt and convert to AL with txt2AL. The conversion gives you a .al file (dataset definition) and a .rdl file (layout). Just open the AL file with VS Code and deploy the extension.
