How line items in Purchase Orders get printed, Alphabetically or sequentially

Posted on by 4,156

We are using GP 2010 and I have observerd something which is kind of odd and strange

When we create a PO, all line items entered ( 1,2,3.......) are in order and look fine but when we print the POs; these line items get sorted alphabetically and are not in sequece like 3 may get printed first then 1, then may be 2.

Is that the default way or something is wrong with the appliation ? I have also checked SQL table and everything is in order and in sequence.

We also use Forms Pritner for POs and SOs

Please throw some light

Regards,

In forms printer, whether you are using Crystal or SSRS reports for your PO, you can control the sort order very easily.  Do you know which tool is being used and how to edit those reports?  It is a function of the report program to sort the items on the PO Form

    Hi Leslie,

Yes, we are using Forms Printer and actually tried to tweek the PO but it did not work. I am thinking the same way as it could be sort order.

I am going to be in touch the ISV to see if this can fixed or a know issue.

Thank you very much for the kind attention. it always helps.

    SYED,

You said you are using Forms Printer, what report is it printing?  That report is likely sorted perhaps in a way you do not want. If it's Forms Printer it could be printer reports that are not native to dynamics gp, and it most likely is.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Oh Boy...I remember doing this for a client about 12 years ago and cannot remember exactly what I did.  I think in the Report Writer some options have to be set or a sort order specified to change the standard report to alphabetical.  Are you running a customized PO Document?

    Hi Leslie,

    thank you very much.

that is my assumption but when we print our POs, the line items are list alphbhetically and I am trying to find a way to print these as entered.

    Hi Syed,

I'm just using regular Report Writer reports and my PO items print in the order they were entered.
