Issue with Changing Customer Posting Groups on Sales Orders

I am integrating customers and employees from another software into Business Central. In that external system, each customer (student or employee) can have multiple customer posting groups assigned.

In Business Central, I see that "Alternative Customer Posting Groups" can be defined under the main Customer Posting Group. However, when I try to change the customer posting group on a sales order, I can only change it once. For example:

  • The default posting group is A

  • I change it to B on the sales order — this works

  • But then I try to change it to C (which is also listed as an alternative in group A), and the system does not allow it

  •

Even though group C is listed under the alternative posting groups, it is not accepted after the first change.

❓ My Question:

Is there a way to allow multiple changes to the customer posting group on the same sales order using alternative posting groups? Or is this just how Business Central works?

I need this flexibility for my integration to match the behavior of my other system, where multiple posting groups can be applied dynamically.

Although it is not recommended, you can try the following method.
Dynamics 365 Business Central: Can we skip/ignore field validation errors?

Hope this can give you some hints as well.
    Thanks.

    Hello,

I understand that you are receiving the following error message.

The issue, is that when receiving the different alternative groups, all the groups must be configured
    In your example:

    A- Alternative groups B and C
    B - Alternative groups A and C
    C - Alternative groups A and B

By performing this configuration, you will not get the error.

The alternative group is related to the customer posting group, not to the customer itself.

    I hope I can help.

    Regards,

    Andres

Changing customer posting group on Sales order is not recommended. Its greyed out by default on Sales order page but you can customize if you need that functionality

    Thanks
    Ramesh
