Dynamics CRM 2011 - Queue Email Password Encryption

Recently our IT security found out that CRM is actually storing encrypted email password (Queue) in dynamics CRM database and this raised their concern.

 

Our security team would like to understand what is the encryption algorithm is being used as well the encryption key. We did not managed to find out

 

Anyone know about this?

    Hi Wei Jie Fun,

     

    Thanks for sharing the Data Encryption information.

    I think that is not what am I looking for.

    I am looking for how actually how ( Algorithm name, Key byte, etc ) the email password field in Queue is being encrypted and stored in database.

    I managed to find out the answer from CRM assemblies using reflection.

    Hey Clément,

    I find out that it's actually encrypted by CRM 2011 core assemblies before it stored it in SQL Server.

    Hi Chris

    What assembly was that?

    I'm facing the issue that Test Access in Email Router Configuration Manager returns "Outgoing Status: Failure - An error occurred while checking the connection to e-mail server outlook.office365.com/.../Exchange.asmx. The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." (I use User Specified in Access Credentials for ExchangeOnline). The email & password in CRM is 100% correct. Then I guess there is some mismatch between the Encryption by CRM and Decryption by Email Router

    The 401 issue happens only in my Production environment. In Dev environment the same configuration works perfectly
