Any way to prevent the system from automatically updating Actualend upon close?

I have a custom activity entity for which I would very much like "actualend" to list the, well, actual end of the activity, rather than the time that the activity was closed, for a number of reasons.

Is there any way to do this, and to prevent the system from updating that field when the activity is closed?

I don't think so. What would be the actual end, beyond closed? You may have to add a custom field and capture the date there.

    Good Luck!

As Tom said, what would be the actual end date if not when the activity is closed?

You might be able to modify this using a plugin/action or webapi to call the Update method on the entity and modify the actual end date.

Basically add a button to the custom activity entity: [SET END DATE], which will call a JS function (or other which would make sense to you).

The JS function will call either webapi or process (you can use process.js) that will call an action to make change to the actual end field in your entity.

Can't confirm if this will work or not as have not tried it, but very possibly that it will.

    Hope this helps.

It's an event attendance record, so the "actual end" should be the *actual end* of the event. Some of it comes in from a webcast platform via a Scribe connector, where we can capture the moment they logged out, others are created for in-person events where it's less exact but still useful to at least have the right day.

Creating a custom field won't help, because it needs to show up & sort properly in an Activity view along with activities like emails, phone calls etc.

The button idea sounds promising, but I'd like to figure out something more automated. In your thinking, would that button be pressed after an activity is closed? To clarify, it sounds like using JS or some other custom coding is the only way to edit the field of a closed activity--there is no native functionality for that (workflows, etc.)?
