Too many steps to print on different printers

We have Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Business Essential installed in our company although the implementation still hasn't finished (it's almost 8 months still not ready yet) so this is not an issue with the implementation but more on the operational side. The problem is that we have 2 type of receipts that we have to print out. One style is the cash receipt which is printed on a terminal epson printer, then there is the other receipt which is Credit which is printed on matrix printer because we have a special format for these types of customers which prints out 1 receipt with 2 carbon copies. So the issue is that normally when I want to print something on any program even microsoft word I just press print and it allows me to select the printer but it doesn't have to be predetermined. But with Microsoft Dynamics GP (what our implementors have showned us is) 1.- Start> control Panel > printers and faxes> right click on the printer needed and predetermine it. 2.- Enter Microsoft Dynamics GP 3.- In the tool bar go to microsoft Dynamics GP>printer configuration> select the printer> properties> quality and paper> Advanced>select the size of the paper>OK >ok.Then I can print the credit receipts but then once I have finished i have to do the same steps to reconfigure the thermal printer Any ideas or shortcuts, to avoid the long process

A standard part of MS Dynamics GP is called Named Printers.  With this facility, you define the different printers (the Epson and the Dot Matrix and any others) then you assign specific documents to each.  You can define a default printer for the majority of reports/documents and just send specific documents to special printers.

    It works great.

And welcome to the GP family.  If you are coming to Convergence in Atlanta in April, stop by our booth (335),  Otherwise, browse our web site.  You should find lots of helpfull advice and tools there.  ( www.AccoladePublication.com )

    Hi Mayra

As Richard mentions, you can use Named Printers to define multiple Printer IDs (Printer Destination and Settings) and then assign them to various Printer Tasks in the system.  Look at Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> System >> Setup.

Let us know how you go.

    Thanks

Sorry Richard and David I believe I have let you down, because I tried configuring both reports on the separate printers but it doesn't seem to be working, or maybe i must of missed a couple of step i'm unaware of. Could you please advice where i can find more documentation or possible print screen or anything just to be able to verify the information.

    Hi Mayra

The System Administration user guide has details about Named Printers.

You can also turn on logging by adding ST_Debug=LOG to the dex.ini and then look at the ST_Debug.LOG file it creates.

If there is a problem changing printer, the log should show it.
