New company setup architecture query

Hi All,

I need below info on urgent basis. 

AX version is ax 2012 FP. Client is using system since last 3 years and now they want to create new company in ax which will be almost replica of the existing company.Currently client is using ESS,workflow etc.

Regarding the architecture we have few queries.   What will be timeline in either way.

1. What all setups is required if we want to create this new company in new application & sql server? So that we can inform Client's IT team for system prerequisites.

2.If we can have central application server but separate sql db server.

3.also, if we can reuse current license on new server if we were separate server.

If we have to buy new license what will be license version and its cost? how we can reuse the current code?

    Hi Shri,

    Also my two cents here:

    1. It would be nice if the setup was documented three years ago, then you have a blueprint for a new company. Data import/export framework was released as a beta for FP, but did not have that much entities to be able to do a export and import. For that reason, you probably have a lot manual setup to do or create own entities or scripts to do the work for you. However, re-entering e.g. 10 customer groups is much faster.

    2. FP has the application and business logic in the same physical database. Separating it will not be possible.

    3. A new instance requires a complete new license. If you run the new company in the current environment, you possible only need additional CAL licenses.

    Sorry there is one correction version is AX 2012 CU2

    Also, I am sorry if i was unable to explain correctly to you guys.To create new company in existing ax application we are considering 3 approaches 

    • Create new company on new AX & sql server(Fresh installation) : - To create new company on separate servers (AX application and separate sql) & have to setup ESS separately then what all I will require as prerequistes. to setup this things. e.g.

      Can I use existing AX licence?What will be the cost? Approximately how long it will take to setup  if we consider to setup std setups for AP,AR, GL,Inventory,HR modules.?Also, in this case how we will import the custom code?

    • Create new company in existing AX server/application but create this company's database on separate sql server :- we can create separate Database on separate SQL server for only this new company and all other company's databases will resides on existing SQL server but both SQL servers will point to single AX application? 
    • Use existing AX , sql servers/application for new company:- If we follow the std approach of creating new company in existing Ax application (continue to use same AX & Sql servers) will it require to buy new license?or anything which needs to be inform to client before actual development?

    2. Sorry Ax version is AX 2012 CU2

    For this version also it won't be possible to create new company in existing AX server/application and pointing this company's database on separate sql server?

    3.where i would be able to get the info about limitation on users count?as only upto 5 users will be using this new company.

    Hi Shri,

    AX2012 CU2 is also having the business logic and business data in one single database.

    The licenses are named user based. If the 5 users were already using AX2012 in the other company, they can re-use the license.
