The production module and the AR module are really independent.  It all depends on what you mean by saying you want to "link" them.

If you want to create a sales order after a production order has been ended, you could possibly write some code to do so.

    Hi Jono,

Providing more information to this question would have made it easier. If you want to link an existing production order to sales order, the steps are a little more involved.  If you simply want to create a production order, there are 3 ways to do so without code:

    1. You can create a production order from another production order

    2. You can manually create a production order

***3. You can create a production order by going into a sales order line and creating it there.  That will link the two together.***

Okay, I understand now you Jon.  Forgive these late responses.  I'm knee-deep with fixing an implementation right now.  [Note: for anyone looking at this post, I think that you must be logged in to see the screenshots]

The easiest way to do it in the future is to simply create your Sales Order first.

    1. Go to the Sales and Marketing Module --> Area Page --> Common --> Sales Orders --> All Sales Orders

    2.  Create a New Sales Order or open up your existing Sales order.

    3. In the Sales Order lines, go to Product and supply and choose New --> Production Order

That's the best and easiest way to do it Jon.  Create your Sales Order first.  Then, follow through with the production order.  Going backwards without code involves a few more steps and isn't as easy.  Hope that helps.

RE: Marking a production order to a sales order

    Hi Brandon,

Is it possible to create multiple prod orders for a sales line in standard AX?

    Thanks.

RE: Marking a production order to a sales order

in Production module when you run Master Planning you link Sales Order to a production

based on the concept of sales Order as demand and Production order as Planned Order for fullfillment

But in you case you wnat to link a production order to a sales order... which is other way round...

may be once you have Production order Reported As finished... you can reserve the produced material to a Sales Order.

Please verify and let me know if this solves your scenario requirement.

or else appreciated if you please share more details of you scenario.

RE: Marking a production order to a sales order

Hi Jon. To go back to your original question. if you have an existing production order that you wish to link to a sales order there are a couple of things you could do:

    1) Use Inventory marking

    2) Enable the Inventory parameter 'Reserve ordered items' and use Inventory reservation.

But as previously stated the best way to link a production order to a sales order is to create the production order from the sales order line. That sets up the inventory marking for you, and you will see the sales order number on the production order, and the production order number on the sales order line. If you later try the same menu option again it works as an enquiry and takes you to the production order.

Linking multiple production orders to a single sales order line is more complicated - you could use Inventory marking and/or reservation again, or you could have master planning create the multiple planned production orders for you (for instance by setting a maximum order size that's lower than your sales order quantity) - and then firm the planned production orders with 'Extended' marking.
