Installing Dynamics 365 Business Central On Premises

Hello

For the past week I have attempted to install Dynamics 365 Business Central with zero success. I have looked at the documentation which has been less than helpful. My goal is to have the server portion installed on a server and to have the databases on a separate SQL server. When I install the software it reports the software has been installed successfully but no database(s) are created. I feel I am missing something as google searches yield no helpful information.

Additionally I have scoured the web for detailed installation guides which I have been unable to find. As with most MS products this feels like a bloated, over engineered solution to a non-problem which I have been tasked with deploying.

RE: Installing Dynamics 365 Business Central On Premises

    Thanks for your reply.

I must be fundamentally misunderstanding this product as nothing is making sense to me. As I understand it, the product has a server component and a database component. Additionally a web component is needed to service web requests, allowing users to connect and work.

When installing the product one can choose among 4 installation options - Client, Server, Developer, and Custom. I presume one would install "Server" to create the Business Central Environment but this option does not install any SQL pieces. This does not make sense to me as how could one have a Business Central Environment without a database? I have customized the options and installed everything which did install a demo I was able to get into. How would one create an actual production environment? I seem to be able to only create a demo successfully.

Did you install the NAV Server on one computer and the SQL server on another computer, if so open the SQL management studio on the SQL Server computer and restore the demo database from the DVD, there is a folder with demo database backup. The SQL server option will install all the components needed for the NAV server to connect but I don't think it will install the demo database unless you have choosen the demo option.  So you need to restore that manually
