System Entity Marketing activities (msdyncrm_mktactivity) blowing up storage

Hi there,

In our system we ran out of storage space.

After running some basic checks using admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com I saw, that the entity Marketing activities (msdyncrm_mktactivity) is generating around 100 MB per day.

The system still is in development and we have not even started running campaigns, the entity just keeps growing and growing

Anybody any idea what is going on there?

Why is there still no fix from Microsoft on this? They must know this file grows exponentially on any system it's been enabled and that you have to manually delete, or run a bulk job, to reset it. This continues to take our inhouse system over the limit which restricts us from creating any additional sandbox instances and impacts the records until we run the bulk delete. This is a major issue.

I would like to know this also!

Wave 2 installed and msdyncrm_mktactivitybase is now taking lots of storage (more than 7 GB).

Does anybody know which Object needs to be selected in Bulk Delete to get rid of the data in msdyncrm_mktactivitybase on line and does anybody know the turn off switch in the Marketing solution. This table is growing 100mb a day.

Option 1 : Upgrade to July 2020 solution release

Option 2 (older than July 2020 version)  : setup a schedule job -  bulk delete records from the table msdyncrm_mktactivity (customer driven)

For your info, the response from Microsoft Support:

The msdyncrm_mktactivityBase table is used for metadata published to CRM from Marketing services.

To reduce the msdyncrm_mktactivity table, you can run a bulk delete job (or schedule it to run periodically) to delete data that's older than a week.
We currently don't have any system jobs that will automatically clear this table, however we will have it in the future; but we don’t have the exact date though.

Kindly check out the Microsoft Documentation link stated below on how to setup a bulk delete job.

    Hi Simon,

I also encountered same issue as yours, and my msdyncrm_mktactivity usage began to grow after 9/26.

I found that those gradually growing data were created by an user called MarketingServices ApplicationUser,

    8054.JPG

    from doc description,

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/admin-users-licenses-roles#dont-modify-or-remove-the-marketing-service-user

"The system uses this account when performing important internal tasks".

However, it seems that there was limited data and details for what these "important internal tasks" may refer to and how msdyncrm_mktactivity entity works exactly in Marketing application.

Samely, there are no customization and any market activity during the period.

Thus we might need raise a support ticket in powerplatform for help.

    Regards,

    Clofly

    Hello Simon,

this is certainly not an expected behavior and your marketing app / configuration is not in a healthy state! I recommend to file a service request such that the team has the system information and can resolve the problem.

(It may be that your instance has already been flagged automatically based on the large flow of metadata refresh activities. But I recommend filing a service request still just to be on the safe side.)
