I have a user who had about 40 our contacts that he had in his Address book in Outlook 2003.  A majority of these contacts didn't have a entity established within CRM.

When this user saved his contacts in CRM he didn't associate them with an entity and would manually type in a label.  After doing this, he realized that all the contacts he put in, were all missing the Company Name in the Contacts in Outlook for each one as if he'd never entered a company name.

I believe this is user error a possible training issue, but does anyone know of this?  Is the Company Name being deleted by CRM because there's not association with an entity within CRM?

We are using CRM 4.0, Outlook 2003 SP3 with Windows XP SP2.

Any help, thank you.

Yes, you're right. As the parent customer attribute is a lookup field, it can only be filled when the parent customer is in the CRM. If you you want a contact from your Outlook to be tracked in CRM you can tell the CRM what shall be the parent customer (in the contact form in Outlook right beside the CRM button). Does that help?

    Hi Frank,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I definitely understand what your saying, the problem is that my end-user is being difficult and not accepting the answer.

    This is his response:

However, if the Company name is not in CRM, why would CRM delete all of the company names from my Outlook contacts for CRM contacts that don’t have a parent/Company input into CRM?

I've decided to escalate to our support vendor for this.  I can't see anyway around it, other than a user training issue.

    Thanks,

    R

You could ask the users to export all their contacts to excel and send it to you, you could import all account and contacts and from that point all customers are in the CRM and your users can synchronize with it.
