I'm facing a challenge and could use assistance. I'm looking to establish a system for managing a tool provided to employees throughout their tenure. My goal is to monitor its service, replacement, and testing needs. Since the tool is considered a stock item, I'm uncertain whether to treat it as a typical stock item or categorize it as an asset. I'd appreciate any insights on how best to address this dilemma.
I have the same question (0)

    Hi Partner,

Could you tell me what app you are using in Dynamics 365?
Currently the forum is supported by products related to CRM such as sales, customer service....
You should post your question into the correct forum based on your product for further help.

    Hi,

For the first part of your question, how to manage the service and replacement of assets, you have som informations in the Asset Form like the field (effective date, Actif or not, etc.) You can also install your asset in another functional location. You can follow this link to know more how you can replace an asset.

About your second part of question, you can use the spart parts of asset and the Asset BOM features. An asset can be composed by many spare parts which are considered as released products. To configure this just navigate to asset management > Setup> Assets > spare parts group.

If you have Dynamics 365 For Field service, you can convert a product to an Asset.

    Hope that's helpful for you.

Please mark answer as verified if that's helpful.

    Hi,
If the tool is seen as a consumable or regularly used item that doesn't need to be tracked in detail throughout its lifecycle, then you might think of it as a typical inventory item. If the tool is a valuable asset that needs more comprehensive tracking, especially when it comes to service, replacement, and testing needs, you can choose to classify it as an asset.
    Best regards,
    Kevin
