BC Web Client is super slow

Hi,

We are soon to go-live with BC v17 and am experiencing tremendous slowness with the web client. This is not always, but some days we are fine while other days it will take example 20 sec to load the page or maybe it will no reload and I have to refresh the page.

We have more than sufficient RAM & CPU power on both the application and SQL server. Currently we are about 2 - 5 people testing and have noticed that when BC runs slow, the CPU will be at 30 - 40 %. It will not just be me, so the problem is not local to my machine and I have user Firefox, Chrome and Edge and all give me the same issue.

Any ideas what could be causing the problem or where I can start looking.

I have searched the issue and most of the reasons given are not applicable to us, such as Change Logs, web browser caching, etc.

Look forward to finding a solution soon.

Regards

RE: BC Web Client is super slow

    Hi Grant,

Performance is a complex area with many potential causes for performance problems. It typically requires some in-depth analysis to get to the bottom of these issues. However, the following are some tips which may help:

    • Make sure the indexes in the BC database have their statistics refreshed on a regular basis. Out of date statistics can cause poor SQL query performance.
    • Similarly, make sure that there is not a problem with index fragmentation in the BC database. You can set up SQL maintenance jobs to defrag indexes automatically when necessary.
    • Check for blocking problems in SQL Server during a period of slow activity.
    • Consider adding a higher value for the "Data Cache Size" setting on the BC Service. This is configured in the BC Admin tool. The default is 10 and that means 1GB RAM will be used for data caching on the BC Server. If you can afford to dedicate more RAM for this purpose then increase this to 11 (2GB) or 12 (4GB) to see if it helps.
    • During a period of slow activity try running teh BC Web client on the BC Application server directly to see if the problem happens in that scenario. If it only happens from client machines then you may have a network performance issue on your hands.
    • Check out Microsoft's comprehensive guide to Performance for other ideas: Performance Overview - Business Central | Microsoft Docs

I hope the above suggestions can help. If not, then I would recommend opening a support ticket with Microsoft via your Solution Provider or Business Central Partner.
