Export to Excel - maximum rows setting in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations

Hello experts

Microsoft had recently allowed, from PU 22 onwards, the maximum number of rows exported from D365FO to Excel to be "1 million". Please note that I am talking about "Export to Excel" function not the "Open in Excel" on any D365FO form. Please see this link for more details: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/business-applications-release-notes/October18/dynamics365-finance-operations/export-more-rows

My question is: Did anyone set this to 1 million and face any issues with either performance or any others in a Testing or Production environment?

Any feedback is much appreciated. Our client wants to set it to maximum so it is future proof and can be exported to Excel for easier analysis and reporting of data especially financial.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Phani,

You don't really want to export a couple of 100000s data records to Excel, do you?

    If so, for what reason?

If you want to analyze mass data then use other tools such as the financial reports or PowerBI.

Exporting data to Excel and then trying to build some analyses on top of that will take a long time and does not seem a good option.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Phani,

Performance depends on many things, for 1 of my client export of trial balance data (custom form and view) took ~13 mins for 350K records.

If you repeatedly need to export data then I would suggest checking the usage of BYODW instead of Excel export or as suggested by Ludwig make sure of Financial reporter. It is considered the best tool for financial analysis. I dont know what data are you looking for but Power BI can also be used with BYODW for reporting as per your needs.
