Hi All, what would be the steps to upgrade from Dynamics CRM 4.0 to Dynamics CRM 2015?

I am unable to find any clear direction or link which can explain this.

Would really appreciate any help around this.

    Hi Karthick,

The following requires a number of environments but the reason we follow this approach is it allows us to test if there are any challenges / differences in all environments through the upgrade process.  It allows us to test where there might be challenges and where something might have broken...

These are the steps we followed at a high level:

    1. Install CRM 2011 on new server

    2. Backup CRM 4.0 production database

    3. Import CRM 4.0 backup to 2011 server

    4. Upgrade customizations (code validation tool and legacy feature check)

    5. Test environment (with multiple end user roles)

    6. Export and backup customizations from CRM 2011 server

    7. Build CRM 2013 server and upgrade any customizations

    8. Test environment (with multiple end user roles)

    9. Export and backup customizations from CRM 2013 server

    10. Build CRM 2015 server and upgrade any customizations

    11. Test environment (with multiple end user roles)

    14. Training

    15. Cutover Final (Update with latest data)

      a. Backup CRM 4.0 database

      b. Restore to CRM 2011

      c. Backup CRM 2011 database

      d. Restore to CRM 2013 database

      e. Backup CRM 2013 database

      f. Restore to CRM 2015 database

      g. Configure email router / server-side sync

    Hopefully this helps...

Here is how you can upgrade your system to 2015.

    1.Upgrade it to crm 2011

    2.Then upgrade from 2011 to 2013

    3.Then from 2013 to 2015.

There is no straight way tomove from crm 4.0 to crm 2015 . you can use crm trail key if you dont have license for any one of the crm version.

    Drew ,

In you answer , did you consider in place upgrade approach or migration approach? Which approach is recommended when you upgrade from CRM 4.0 32 bit to CRM 2015?

We did not do an in place upgrade on purpose so we could test each of the environments as we went through and be able to determine if any issues.  The recommended approach (from me) is above in my response.

    Hope this helps!

Should I install .net framework 4.0 first when performing in-place update?
