Modify Task Quick Create from Activities

Is there any way to edit the Quick Create form that appears when you create a new Task from a Case's Activities area?  I want to add a Task Type to the form.

Also, regarding Activities, if I create a new entity and establish it as an Activity type, will it show up in the Activities area from which one can choose?

    Hi Debra,

To your first question, Yes! If you go to Settings > Customizations and open the default solution by clicking 'Customize the System', you will be able to browse into the entities and find the Task entity. Go into the Forms node of the Task entity and you should see the various types of forms available for configuration, including the quick create form.

For the second question, Yes! Custom entities configured as Activity Types should be available in the Activities area under the More Commands ellipse button on the command bar.

    hope this helps!

    Hi Debra,

Tasks can not be enabled for Quick Create, sorry.  You can see this by looking at the Task entity main page, the option for Allow Quick Create can not be changed.

On your second question, yes it will be.  I did this for a custom last week :)

    Thanks,

Right - thanks Drew, and sorry for the misinformation Debra.

Debra - do you mean the form that shows when using the Task Control / Collaboration pane on a form then?

I would recommend upvoting this request on Microsoft Connect:

Thanks Camille and Drew!  I was referring to the form Drew was referring to.  I had gone into the quick create version of it and it's non-editable.  I then created another Quick Create, but there is no "ordering" of these like others.  So, yes, I'll upvote that request.

I discovered the answer to the 2nd question after posting it by experimenting.  For each case, we can have one or many purchase orders for services, so I created a Purchase Order custom entity as an activity.   Does flagging the Activity attribute have any other implications?

I just spent over 5 hours trying to figure out why a calculation on a form was not working.  I finally dumped all the entity's fields onto a "troubleshooting" form and discovered that the calculation worked on that one.  The scope of both forms was set to "All Forms" so it didn't make sense.  I finally discovered --- at least I think this is the reason -- that a calculated field was referencing a calculated field that wasn't dropped on the form that wasn't working and was on the one that was working.  WOW .... what a way to learn -- 5 hours and back breaking!

Odd - are you registered with Microsoft connect with your live account? It asks me to log in, but then takes me right there.

Maybe you can try going to: connect.microsoft.com/dynamicssuggestions and clicking "Search Existing" and entering the ID: 1512562

implications of setting something as an Activity Type: when an entity is defined as an Activity, it inherits properties & privileges from the Activity Pointer (you will note there is an Activity entity as well as specific entities for each activity type - this is the Activity Pointer).  This means any "Activities" views will include your custom activities as well (much like how you will see emails, phone calls, etc. all in these views). I think the main limitations are that the primary attribute must be named Subject rather than Name or something custom, and you cannot enable activity relationships on activity entities like you can with custom entities (checkbox on entity settings).
