ReportReport

I am trying to run a report book and have chose the formatted excel file file type.  When it gets to the end of the export, I get an error 988672, access denied because another caller has the file open and locked.  I do not get this message with any other file types. I would like to use the formatted excel because I want each location as a separate tab in excel. Nobody else has the file open.

I  have not used report books much, and I've had NO clients who do, but that does sound like a bug.  You should contact your reseller or Microsoft (if you have direct support).

We have run into the same error when using Windows Server 2008. Were you able to resolve your problem?

I just checked KnowledgeBase... service pack 6 fixes some Excel issues (nothing mentioned about packs 7 thru 10)

Although they don't exactly match your symptoms, it does look like that service pack addressed some Excel "issues" (and may have broken other aspects...sigh).

SMR 22228: If a user generates a report to Formatted Excel and asks to activate the workbook, excel will not open if there is a space in the chain to Catalog ID.

SMR 22229: If a user generates a report to Formatted Excel and says no to a chained report, Excel will not open.

I installed service pack 11 and it fixed that particular problem but caused others.  I am still working on fixing those issues now.  Thanks for your response!
