Unified Service Desk - Hyperlinks present in Standard Web application open in the same tab instead of outside USD in i.e

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have hosted an external application (Say- msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn864918.aspx,In main panel as global). It consists of many hyperlinks.

We open the application from toolbar button by calling navigation action, however when we click on hyperlinks contained inside this application, it is not opening outside USD in i.e.

We have tried various combinations in windows navigation rule but the new page loads in the current tab itself, whereas we want it to open outside USD in internet explorer.

Kindly help!!

Yeah I figured this out after my previous post. The only issue I still see though is session scoped browser cookies aren't being sent to the new window being opened. This prevents you from leveraging an established session from an USD Tab (i.e. ASP.NET_SessionId). I'm not sure if there's any way around this outside of right clicking the link and selecting Open in New Window from the context menu. This sends session scoped browser cookies to the new IE window for you.

In the url you can enter "*", this will then apply this rule to all windows attempting to open. With the from sent to your starting tab and the "url" set to "*" you could load anything outside of USD with one navigation rule.

Alternatively you can also enter a relative url path. So you don't have to enter the entire url in the url field. (Do not add an "*" when entering a relative url!)

I was able to get this working by following the USD team's blog post on - blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../unified-service-desk-best-practices-part-5-open-pdf-files-in-an-ie-process-hosted-control

The only problem I have with the solution is you have to create a # of these to pick up these routes. In a perfect world we would be allowed to set a regular expression for the url to have a single mapping.

I'm experiencing this same issue with the Standard Web Application control with a hosting type of IE Process. Our issue is more that the anchor tags have the target attribute set to _blank which tells the browser to open this in a new window or tab but instead is rendered in the existing USD tab. This makes it impossible to navigate back when we're rendering things like pdf's in the browser.

I'm hoping someone responds to this because it is an issue. The other issue is if you use Internal WPF then it will launch the link for you in an IE window but your session cookie isn't sent on the request for you by IE. I assume because they are different processes in the end.
