We are planning to upgrade Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU8 to Dynamics 365 FinOps

1- When i try to install KB 4035163 pre-upgrade checklist , it is supported for CU13 release , Is it better to upgrade from CU8 to CU13 before upgrade to 365 FinOps ?

2- I would like to install local VM for data and code upgrade ,Should i download latest VM from LCS (10.0.5) and AX2012DataUpgrade-10-0-5 data package for data upgrade ?

3- Should i upgrade downloaded VM (10.0.5 ) to the latest Dyn365 version before start code and data upgrade process ?

I have the same question (0)

    1) Usually there is no value, just install the hotfix and make sure that you can do full compile. Usually, we have dedicated environment for the upgrade where you install the hotfix, so you don't worry too much about any issues in your live environment that may be introduced by it. However, you may go with CU13 as well, it may bring lots of perf and other improvements to your current environment but it will take quite a bit of time to do the upgrade.

    2) Yes, get a VM, move DB according instructions on docs and then apply the package.

    3) Yes, and you will have to periodically update it to new release as they get released by MS.

    Hi Odai,

I will try to answer your questions here:

    1) Please look at the documentation where it is mentioned as separate note to update to the latest available cumulative update. So, you indeed have to update from CU8 to CU13. docs.microsoft.com/.../upgrade-overview-2012

2 + 3) It would be the best to start with the latest available version which is currently version 10.0.9. See also the lifecycle policy for Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations: docs.microsoft.com/.../versions-update-policy

    HI  Odai Househ,

    Yes.

The code upgrade service in Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services (the collaborative portal for managing updates and upgrades) currently accepts a model store file as an input, which essentially means that you can upgrade anything from Dynamics AX 2012 to Dynamics 365 for Operations. However, this process works best for the Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU8 version onwards.

The code upgrade is done through Microsoft Lifecycle Services (LCS) so you need an LCS project to start with.
