Dynamics GP 10 performance issues

We are currently experiencing performance issues in GP 10.

We have GP 10 and CRM 4 installed and are using Scribe to transfer the sales orders from our CRM module to GP.

We are running an application server with a separate DB server.

App server specs: Two 3.0 dual core processors with 4 GB of RAM

DB server specs: Two 3.0 dual core processors with 8 GB RAM

Issue:

We have developed our own SOP client application for order entry which is calling the eConnect stored procedures to add orders to GP

The issue is that whenever we run scribe, an EDI process or a large order (15 items) through our order entry application SQL server seems to utilize over 90% of the CPUs.  This utilization does not allow other requests in GP to be processed  (i.e. even a simple login or company change can take up to a minute to be processed.

The server hardware seems to be sufficient based on the documented requirements.  Could there be something incorrecly set in the GP configuration causing the performance issue?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

    Mike,

This is exactly our issue.  I will give them a call and see if they can help me out.

    Thanks for the information.

Jerry - We had the very same issue with Dynamics GP 10 and even the new Dynamics GP 2010 (beta) performance issues. We're processing SOP, PM Transactions and PM Apply (Checks to open PM Trans) via eConnect on SQL Server 2008. Although our Dell Server configuration appears actually to be not as robust as yours we were able to resolve the performance issues and achieve blazingly fast response times from our custom app/eConnect to GP. We use a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, SDSI, who specializes in Dynamics GP data conversions and custom eConnect integrations and they have a service that fully optimizes both Dynamics GP AND SQL Server to obtain the correct fast performance levels required in a production environment. When I saw your posting I thought I should pass along the contact info for this group. We went through four other GP partners who didn’t help much and when MS couldn't resolve the problem they referred us to SDSI.

The problem was in a incorrect configuration and installation of BOTH Dynamics GP AND SQL Server 2008 as well as tuning the SQL Server Indexes, Parallelism and making some quick and simple "fixes" to our code that calls the eConnect Objects that resolved the problem completely. We now have sub-second response time when processing SOP Invoices with 40+ lines. You can contact SDSI from their website http://www.silicondigitalsystems.com/dataconversion and they can help. The techs that worked on our project were Karl and Sundeep if you want to ask for the same GP engineers that fixed our performance issues. Good luck.

    Mariano,

    Thanks for the information.

We tried to contact MS but they are not able to help us yet.

Could you share some information with me to see if we are performing the same tasks?

    1. SQL server configuration (Our SQL server is running with 2 dual core 3.0 Ghz procs with 8 GB RAM)

    2. Code sample of how you are calling the eConnect methods to enter orders in SOP

    3. Performance - timing if your order entry process (we are loading line items at 2 seconds per line item)

    Thanks for the help.

I don't know of any threading issues with eConnect stored procedures and I am currently working on a project where we are relying on these stored procs for SOP orders and returns. Depending on your environment, my next check would be on the tables that eConnect stored procs affect to verify they are no "rogue" triggers. I believe it may be worth capturing a query plan to see what is causing the performance issue.

    Mariano,

    Thanks for the reply.

We did run a test with the eConnect SPs in query analyzer and received the same performance as we did with the application.  It seems odd that it would take nearly 40 seconds to process an order with 15 line items.  It is almost as if there is a threading issue where only one request can get through at a time.  any ideas on threading with eConnect?

Re: Dynamics GP 10 performance issues

Since this issue involves custom code, my recommendation would be to test the eConnect stored procedures independently from a Microsoft SQL Server query window and check the response time there. You would call the taSop stored procs in the order you are calling them from within your application, with the data records you are passing from, say 1 order with 10 lines and get the time there.

Then you can compare the above time against the time your application takes to submit the order. If you come up with any significant deviation then you have an answer and will need to refer back to your dev team.
