Hello everyone,

Hope you are doing well.

I am new to Dynamics 365 F&O. What are the different way to integrate Power BI with Dynamics 365 F&O.
Also, how can I verify that current Dynamics 365 F&O environment is integrated with Power BI or not?

Regards,

Hi there! Good morning, evening, or afternoon - depending on where you are :) Hope you are well today!

Ways to Integrate Power BI with Dynamics 365 F&O:
    • Embedded Power BI Dashboards:
      • Dynamics 365 F&O allows native embedding of Power BI dashboards and reports in the application. These are tied to specific workspaces and offer visual insights directly in the system.
    • Entity Store Integration:
      • The Entity Store is a built-in, optimized operational data store in Dynamics 365 F&O. It allows you to export aggregate data from the system into a data warehouse format, which can be connected to Power BI for advanced reporting.
    • Direct Query to Data Entities:
      • Power BI can connect directly to Dynamics 365 F&O through exposed OData feeds (data entities). This enables real-time or near-real-time analytics on transactional data within the system.
    • Data Lake Integration:
      • With Azure Data Lake integration, you can export data from Dynamics 365 F&O to a data lake, which Power BI can then use as a data source for building complex, large-scale reports.
    • BYOD (Bring Your Own Database):
      • You can configure Dynamics 365 F&O to export data to an external database (e.g., Azure SQL). Power BI can then connect to this database to analyze historical and operational data.
    Verifying Power BI Integration:
    • To check if your Dynamics 365 F&O environment is already integrated with Power BI:
      • Check Embedded Power BI in Workspaces:
        • Navigate to a workspace within Dynamics 365 F&O and see if Power BI reports or dashboards are visible. This indicates that Power BI is embedded and connected.
      • Verify System Administration Settings:
        • Go to System Administration > Setup > Power BI. Ensure that integration settings, such as Azure Service Principal and Power BI URLs, are configured.
      • Validate Security Roles:
        • Make sure that the necessary security roles and permissions (e.g., System Administrator or Power BI Service Administrator) are assigned to access and use Power BI integration.
      • Test OData Endpoints:
        • Confirm that OData endpoints for Dynamics 365 F&O are functioning. You can check this via Power BI Desktop by attempting to connect to your F&O URL and testing real-time data retrieval.
