GP Service Pack 5 will not install - installer does not run

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am wanting to install service pack 5 on my server and when I click the executable to install the service pack it runs and installs the redistributatble items, however, it never installs the rest of the service pack.  I have restarted the machine and tried again,  but it just does nothing and there is nothing on the screen.  What can I do to get the service pack to go on?

I know it's been awhile since you last posted so you likely have resolved your issue already, but I had a similar problem and figure it can't hurt to share my fix.  My problem was caused by not having the correct path for the service pack update to follow.

    1. Click on Start and then click Run.  Type REGEDIT and click OK.

    2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Microsoft | Business Solutions | Great Plains.

    3. Under Great Plains, the DEFAULT directory is for the DEFAULT install.

The Inst01 directory is for the second instance of Microsoft Dynamics GP and so on.

    4. Find the instance of GP you are trying to update.  Expand it, and click Setup.  In the Data column, take note of your AppPath.  The GP folder you are trying to update must be located along this same path (e.g. C:\GP\GP10\).

    Hope this helps

I am logged on as local adminitrator and I have tried running it as the local administrator and have tried a "run as" as a domain administrator, as well.  It says 10.0 is being configured on your computer but when the bars get to the end the box goes away and nothing else happens.

It could be that UAC is turned on and preventing you from running the SP.  Can you right click on the exe and selet Run as Administrator?

I would also make sure you are a local administrator on the machine you are running the service pack from.
