Four days into messing around with trying to install 5 year old Bixolon Printer 350 thermal and 14 year old cash drawer. I got printer to sorta work using a virtual OPOS port on a windows 7 machine. The printer will print everything I need but does not respond to changing receipt formats. It will not print out a long enough footer/bottom margin no matter how I adjust settings.
Cash drawer doesn't pop at all and I get the message that the OPOS drivers are not installed.
My needs are cash drawer, receipt printer, and scanner.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Mike

I forgot to mention about the footer section not giving you enough space. I was in the need to print out quite a few policies regarding different purchases, and the way you edit your footer in RMS doesn't give you any flexibility. The answer is to edit the receipt XML directly using notepad or similar text editing program. You can add however many lines of footer text you need indefinitely. It isn't hard to do either, and you will run into that same problem no matter what printer you use. The Star TSP100 does give you a nifty receipt editing program that you can use independently of RMS to get it looking exactly how you want, so that would be an option also if you bought that printer line. If you need further help editing the XML in your receipt, post back.

Mike,
Using that old of a printer to drive that old of a cash drawer could be a problem. You need to make sure you have the proper cable pin setup and opos setup program. I know nothing of Bixolon, so best to check the downloads on their website. Check this link out, http://bit.ly/gYcgKP it appears to be what you need. But the cash drawer and cable connection could still be a problem. If the printer works to your satisfaction, you can buy a USB cash drawer for around $100 and be done with it. As far as changing the text, if you use OPOS drivers to run your printer you will not be able to change much, if anything, in regards to fonts and font sizes. I have switched to a Star TSP100 with windows drivers and am really happy with it. I used OPOS for years and Windows drivers are much better. As far as the scanner goes, get a cheap USB Laser Scanner. Most of the ones from Symbol have worked well for me.

After talking with partner, I beleive you are best served with an OPOS printer. I bought a STAR.
As far as the recipt changes you have to go into Store Ops manager-Database - Register and reload receipt for any changes to the receipt file to take effect,
