AX2012 Customer template editing

Posted on by

Recently we wanted to create a customer template. The creation works perfectly.

Now we want to elaborate the template records. For this purpose we go to following menu:

Home --> Setup --> Record templates

On the templates tab when I try to edit the template the following error is thrown:

Record template editing is not allowed for table with ValidTimeState enabled templates

The problem seems to be related to DirParty buffers in the form as they are date effective, but how to come araound to this?

Did someone find a suitable solution to edit templates for customers/vendors?

    Hi Thomas,

I did a search on partnersource. I see hotfixes avaiable for AX2009 on similar issues but I don't see anything similar for AX2012. Maybe it's worth to create a support request for this. If they would do something about it for AX2009, there's a good chance they'll do the same for AX2012?

    Hi Dolee,

thanks for feedback. I hoped there is another workaround but it seems that this is by design. Did you know if there are MS cases opened for it or at least if there is feature request on connect that a solution will be provided by MS?

    Regards

    Hi Thomas,

They disabled template editing for records which have datasource with table inheritance or validTimeState tables, and probably with good reasons.

In your case, the best alternative I can think of would be to create "template" customers. After editing any details, save a new template (and delete the old ones if needed to). I am the first to admin this is not at all convenient.

By the way, of course you should NOT do this directly in a production environment.

    Hi, Thomas

If an error is thrown, there must be some reason behind it. Since it's just a model, it may not even be that important, but who knows? You could try disabling this validation (customization) for your customer template and see what happens.
