Not posting journals cannot be consumed on project budget

Hi all

I created budget of expense category on project and the amount is 100. Then I create expense journal with amount of 80, and I saved this journal there but no post it. Then I created the second expense journal with amount  50, but there is no error pop up. So how to control it even it I didn't post the first journal, it will be consumed from the project budget and the remain budget is 20?

Thank you!

    Hi,

The project budget will be reduced with the posting of the expense journal. That is, if you have not posted the $80, the budget remains at $100.

A workaround is the use of the budgeting module where you can also include unposted journals in the budget control.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

It should also be noted that one of the two journals will fail to post with a budget overrun error. Which one depends on the order of posting. This assumes you a not allowing overrun in the budget control.

So can you  share the workaround how to include unposted journals in the budget control?

    Thank you!

    Hello Jane.Gu,

To my knowledge this requires the use of the budget control functionality that is available in the budgeting module.

    Here are some screenprints

To get this work in relation to projects there might be a change necessary in the way how you currently budget.

That is, the budget control configuration in the budgeting module only checks your project budgets that you have registered in the budgeting module if those budgets are transferred to the ledger budget. There is a specific transfer process available for that at the project level.

Once the transfer is made and the budget module budget register entries are updated (posted) you can have a budget check on unposted journals.

Before trying to use this budget module budget control configuration I would recommend that you do some comprehensive testing as this budget control feature requires additional working steps.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
