Azure Synapse LInk For Dataverse Vs (LCS)` Export to Azure Data Lake

Hi,

There seems to be two approaches for customers to get data out of Dynamics 365 F&O as per our knowledge which are

1. Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse
learn.microsoft.com/.../export-to-data-lake

2. Export to Azure Data Lake
learn.microsoft.com/.../azure-data-lake-ga-version-overview

Keeping in mind the longevity and investments from Microsoft for new functionality going forward, which option should we chose to get data out of our Dynamics 365 F&O given the choice?

Is this true that Microsoft is making investment predominantly on "Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse" instead of "Export to Azure Data Lake" and should be go to solution if we have a choice ?

Many Thanks,
Ahsan

RE: Azure Synapse Link For Dataverse Vs (LCS)` Export to Azure Data Lake

    HI,

Export to Data Lake is from D365FO while Azure Synapse Link to Dataverse is taking data from Dataverse to a data lake.

Your F&O data is not in dataverse do you mean your CE data? Unless you are moving data to dataverse from F&O.

Export to Data Lake from F&O I consider to be a replacement for Export Entity Store to Data Lake.

You can now take tables or  entities from F&O and use Azure Synapse Analytics to build views, join tables etc. generally curate them and prep for PowerBI consumption via Azure Synapse endpoint

Azure Synapse Link takes data from Dataverse and allows Synapse to work on the data and PBI to consume usually in m experience CE or model driven app data over an app that you have built

    Hi,

In the same position and based on this post it looks like Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse is the way to go having the "future proof" in mind. Here is a quote from the post:

"The Export to Data Lake feature in finance and operations apps is being combined with Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse. We will announce deprecation of Export to Data Lake service and transition existing customers to Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse.
If you're planning to adopt the Export to Data Lake feature in finance and operations apps, you should consider adopting Azure Synapse Link with finance and operations data support instead. We will provide guidance and tools for existing customers to transition to Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse. If you're currently using the Export to Data Lake feature in finance and operations apps, you can continue to use both services in parallel until the transition"

One thing to keep in mind this is still quite a new feature (10.34) which I can see as a risk.

    /Adam
