How to Sort Date Column by Specific Year?

How can I sort a date column by a specific year? I only see the option to choose fiscal year, but I need calendar year. Right now we export the view to excel to further sort, but we need this to work in order to build a chart. This seems like an obvious miss for on the products part, or am the one missing something?
