Restricting purchasing for specific users by vendor or vendor group

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is any way to restrict purchasing for specific users by vendor or vendor group.

For example, within a specific legal entity we have 10 customers, we only want user X to be able to enter purchase orders for 5 of these customers - is this possible without customization?

Hi, through RLS (but it's not adviced by MS on 2012) you can do it but the restriction is applied per role and not per user. It could work if you have a dedicated role per user.

PS : you setup PO for customers ?? vendor you mean?

Yes, sorry I meant vendor! Thanks for the reply. Why is it not advised? Can we do this by vendor group?

Yes you can, with RLS you setup your query so you may be able to restric to vendor group.

In 2012 it's more relevant to use XDS instead of RLS. But RLS still does work.

I don't think security is a great idea to restrict which vendors can be used by which user.

If you apply security to the vendor table, it will mean other users will not even be able to see these vendors in the vendors list, update their details, etc. They will become "secret vendors"

There are three way to do it, choice is yours

XDS

Needs Customization:

Yes

SWOT:

The security will be applied across whole AX.

Vendors groups will not be visible thorough system, unless allowed selective set of vendor groups or vendors

The security will be applied to forms reports, etc. everywhere except Analysis services

Record Level Security

Need Customization:

No

        SWOT:

                        Not sure.

IF ELSE Conditions of X++

Need Customization:

                Yes

SWOT:

                The security will only be applicable to those lookups where you will write code.
