Statistics in SL

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello All,

Just inherited a Solomon database and was asked to insert stats into the ledger to be used for reporting.  I'm from the Dynamics GP universe and do not have a clue on how to start entering these stats.  Is there anyone who can get me started.  This is something I will have to learn on my own as mgmt has said there is no funds for training.  If there is anyone who can give me a clue on how to put the following examples of stats into my system, I would greatly appreciate it.   Thanks a million!!

Stats                                                Jan                      Feb                Mar

Total Subscribers                              4,835                      5,040               4,899

  Cable Subscribers                             4835                       5040              4899

Basic Cable                                        22                               45                 99

Digital Cable                                    1363                           1377             1418

Internet                                           910                             882                 854

try selecting the Actual book code for the column. The row modifier should just override the one line with the values coming from the stat ledger.

Hello, i finally was able to set my report up using the book code for the stats I put in.  The report has GL as well as Stats in the report. I used the row modifier to enter the Stat code on the row format.  On the column layout, I can only choose ACTUAL or STAT.  I'm reporting on both per month...

Is there a way to accomplish this without having to create 2 separate columns per month? This report will be humongous if I have to do it this way...

Yes, it will be the same concept. Use the book code in the row format to select the stat ledger id.

    Hi Bill,

They are using FRx.  Is it pulled in the same way?  I'm still entering data but this is my next step.

    Thanks

    Deborah,

The next step will be to the statistics in Management Reporter. remember to use the Row modifier in the Row Definition to read the values from the Stats ledger.

    Deborah,

That is exactly how we use the STAT ledgers. You can count anything you want in them. Dollars, donuts - you name it.

Just make sure when you do the JE, that you select the correct ledger in the header of the screen, and you will not affect the default accounting ledger at all.

Thanks Butch.  I have my "STATS" Ledger set up and I'm setting up the accounts for the stats currently.  My next question is, once I have the accounts set up can I go in and put data in them that will not affect the GL at all?  I want to update the ledger with 2014 and 2015 data?

Also, the data would not be currency just stat numbers, will that make a difference?  I'm sorry if these are obvious questions, but this is ALL new to me and I have absolutely no training.  I don't have a TEST database over here to play in also.  :-(   So anything that you give me I REALLY appreciate.

You should have a statistical ledger setup in your system already. When you open the Journal Entry screen, you can change from the Actuals ledger to the statistical ledger. Hit F3 in the Ledger ID Field and you can select from the list:

If you have access, you can open Ledger Maintenance in the GL Module:

If you hit F3 in the Batch Number field of the Journal screen, one of the columns should have the Ledger ID listed. You can bring up an old one to see how the entries are made.
