Migrate UII Option values when updating Unified Service Desk configuration

Posted on by 90

Hi all!

An example: I have a UII option with the name "Path1" and the default value "<set path>"

I created a package (let's call it version 1.0) which is deployed to Dynamics 365. The value of the UII option is now set to C:\whatever.

Now I create a package 2.0 with new USD configuration controls (like additional action calls or hosted controls).

When this package is installed by using the package deployer the "Path1" UII option is set back to "<set path>", is there a way I can migrate the UII option values to the 2.0 version so that I do not have to set the option value again?

It would be great if USD controls could be associated with a solution then values would be migrated (like fields in custom entities) - but I don't think that's possible or is it?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you can not transfer only a set of (in your case, newly created) controls/action calls/<<any other entities>> data using Package deployer or configuration migration tool.

The only option left for you is, ship all these as excel exports and associate them carefully in the target environment.

The USD upgrade path from Microsoft - only happens to USD solutions, not for the data.

Maybe I need to add some more insight on this one:
I have an example configuration which is shipped to a department, let's call this version 1.0 (exported via ConfigurationMigration and stored in data-1.0.zip)
Department installs 1.0 and makes some changes to the USD configuration (adds action calls, subscribes to events and creates hosted controls...)
For version 2.0 there are changes needed in the USD configuration (let's say I need to add a new Hosted Control, action calls and add the action calls to DesktopReady event) so that my hosted controls continue to work. So I'd ship a second data-2.0.zip to the other department.
Can they just install data-2.0.zip and all configurations (department specific + mine) are merged or how do upgrades for USD configurations work? For Solutions there's a clearly laid out path on how upgrades work.
    Thanks!
