Between Visual Studio Professional 2015, 2017, 2019 is there any advantage to one version when code upgrading in a DevOps in-place upgrade AX 2012 R3 - D365 F&O?
Hi Rodney,
You will need to use VS 2015, specifically the version that is installed along with the D3FO Dev VM (deployed through LCS or deployed locally) as it has the extensions installed for development in D3FO.
The latest DEV VM for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (10.0.13) are prebuilt with Visual Studio 2017. You need to bring your own license.
See also the next blog with information about the move from VS2015to VS2017.

Hi Andre,
Ahhh, this is good news. I will use VS2017 in my on-prem deployment and continue to use use the Dev VM on Azure. Using side by side I may notice any differences. Thank you very much.
