MRP Gross and Net Requirements - Different months

(0) ShareShare

Hi all, I have an item that was run through MRP. When I look at the Gross requirements, I see 12 months (November through to October 2017). However, if I look at the Net requirements for the same item, I only see three months (November, December, January 2017). What could cause that difference?

Many thanks,

Anna

    Hi Anna,

Gross requirements looks at a Forecast Plan; Net requirements looks at a Master Plan. How far out each will look is determined by the setting 'Coverage time fence'.

Typically, the (main) Master Plan is configured to use the 'Coverage time fence' on the Coverage Group (or Item Coverage) of each item. But if the Master Plan itself has 'Coverage' ticked on the 'Time Fences' fast tab, it will use the number here instead.

The Forecast plan has its own 'Coverage time fence' setting which it uses.

Hi Guy, thank you for your quick reply! I checked the details for the item in question:

For the items where the Net requirements is only going to January, the coverage time fence is set to 365 days (Item Details - Net Requirements - Setup - Coverage Time Fence).

The Coverage Group for the item is REQ. In Master Planning - Coverage - Coverage Groups - the Coverage Time Fence for REQ is set to 365.

In Master Planning -  Setup - Master Plans - The Time Fences tab is set to 365 days for the Master Plan. The Master Plan does have coverage ticked and set to 365 days. We also only have a single master plan.

Incidentally, the Time Fences setting for the Forecast Plan is set to 730 days.

Is there anything else that I can check?

    Many thanks,

    Anna

    Hi Anna

I imagine your REQ coverage group has a coverage code of 'Requirement'. This means AX will create planned supply for any demand that it sees. Do you have sales orders for Feb onwards? If not, I guess that demand should come from the sales forecast. So, on the Coverage group 'REQ', what is the 'Forecast plan time fence' set to? On the Master Plan, is a Forecast set at 'Inventory forecast model'? Is 'Include demand forecast' ticked? On the 'Time fences' tab, is 'Forecast plan' ticked? If yes, how is it set?

Hi Guy, I think I know what the problem is now. The gross requirements showed the requirements from the latest forecast (200 finished goods per month). The net requirements for the BOM item stopped in January. I looked at the on-hand and saw the already had 6000 BOM items in storage. Master planning would have no need to generate new purchase orders when we already have 6000 of the items in storage, and are only using 200 BOM items per month. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

    Many thanks,

    Anna

    Hi Anna,

I didn't notice we were talking about only one item; my answers were more about if the whole thing was behaving like this. Glad you got it sorted!
