Curious question about dev setup. Cloud Sandbox vs On-prem/Docker/VM

I dabble in VS only a few times a month, modifying and adding little tweaks to an extension I've made for work.
 
I program in a sort-of 'FAFO' style, so I'm always F5'ing and publishing my tweaks to our cloud based sandbox until things work.
 
Would there be any great benefit to having an on-prem version to play around with ?  Apart from the couple seconds in lag time ?

    Yes, you can download BC version and install on your laptop or create a docker container.

    Hello,
     
    You can install an older version of sandbox on-prem while on-cloud can only be created with the latest version.
    Also, your extensions get deleted when there is a new update for on-cloud while you can hold any update for on-prem.
     
    There could be more pros & cons but these are the two I remembered.

    I think there is no need to use the On-prem version except for development specifically for On-prem customers. . .
