Dear friends,

I am experiencing a problem installing SQL Server 2005 on a system with Microsoft Window XP Version 200 operating system. Though the system has just been formatted. Before the system was formatted SQL server had been installed before.

I tried to install the same SQL server after the system was formatted but i keep getting this error message:
"There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard- You may review the setup logs/or click the help button for more information".

On clicking the help button for more information, it showed the log file issue as:
C:\Program File\microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bookstrap\LOG\sql setup 0001cab.

What exactly is the problem, cos i can't interpret the error message. I need your help.
Ver Urgent.
Saheed.

Are you working from the original instal DVD or a copy?  Or perhaps a copy to the network or pc?  SQL likes its files in specific locations.  Find the original DVD and install from that.

If you are working from the DVD/CD, you may have a corrupt or damaged disk.  Try first cleaning the DVD/CD with a soft cloth (use circular strokes) and running the install again.  You may need a replacement disk.

I have also found through the years that some DVD/CD's that work perfectly on one machine fail on others.  Can you access the disk on another machine and copy it?

    Update on the KB/CustomerSource thing:

Contrary to my understanding previously, not all KB's are currently accessable via CustomerSource: like the 916760 one I referenced.  Sorry about that.

What I heard this week is that the next voice release will enable access also to the KBs on msdn from CustomerSource.  So after that, you will be able to get to the 916760 KB for example on CustomerSource.
