template maintenance

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Went through the process of modifying a sales order quote:  (these were my steps)

1. Reports >> Template Maintenance.

2. Select report

3. Click New and select From Existing Template.

4. Select the Template from the list that is to be the starting point for the new template.

5. Enter the New Template's Name and click Create.

Modifying the template

1. In the Available Templates list select the newly created template.

2. Click Modify to open Microsoft Word with the template loaded.

3. Make the changes as desired.

4. Select File >> Save As.

5. Check the Maintain compatibility with previous versions of Word.

6. Save the template to a known location

7. Close Word

8. Click the green plus sign to Add a template.

9. Locate the previously saved document and click Open.

10. Select "Yes" when asked if you wish to replace the existing template.

Assigning the template

1. In the Available Templates list select the now modified template.

2. Click Assign >> Company. Check the appropriate companies and Default it if required click Save.

3. Click Assign >> Customer or Vendor if not defaulted.

4. Click Save.

You should see your change in word template.

Go to:  Administration > System > Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports > choose the modified report

However - when we print a quote form, nothing is changed!  Have done this over and over and still nothing.  Only adding a logo to the form.  no errors anywhere - it just won't print the revision

What's the trick?

No, you import the file into GP so it's location is irrelevant.

To what is the Status in the top right corner of the Template Maintenance set?

does it matter where you save the word template?  We can retrieve it in GP and import it

I'm using the SOP Blank Quote form.  I make a new template - give it a different name to be sure I'm using the right one and then modify that form in Word, save it in a directory that I can access, go back to GP and import that form, make it the default form for the company.  Then I go to Admin - Alternate/Modified Forms and make sure the modified form is clicked in the green circle.  (I've even unclicked it and reclicked it to be sure the change took place)

In Template Maintenance, what is the status box set to? Does it say Modified or Original?

If you have created a modified version of the Original Word template, this is not a modified report; it is still an original.

Are you absolutely certain that you have selected the correct template/SOP report?
