SmartList Designer

I'm trying to Save my Smartlist Designer Report and receive the following error message: "you must enter a unique name before you can save".  I have entered xxx, 123, PM_Legal,  which are not names on any other report.

There must be a name smart list out there with the same name, it could be a favorite name or a smartlist customized with other product like smart list builder.

To make sure that this is the case, give it any name that comes to your mind, just of the sake of testing, if it gets saved then this is the case.

To propose a logical solution, check the ASIEXP81 table for any possible favorite name that is reserved, run the query below:

    USE DYNAMICS
    SELECT * FROM ASIEXP81 WHERE ASI_Favorite_Name LIKE '%%'

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

This smells like a security issue to me - here is an earlier post on a SQL permissions error.  In this case, perhaps you don't have permission to insert new records into the ASIEXP81 table, and the error is just Dynamic's interpretation of the problem.

I had the same issue when I started using Smartlist Designer. If the report I am creating is in Inventory, I highlight that and give it a name relative to the nature of the report, e.g., Price List. It has worked as long as there is nothing there already with that name.

I used the names that are currently there and increment by 1.

    Hi Gayla!

There's a few things to check on this one.

    1) As others have mentioned, the name does need to be unique, you cannot have another smartlist object with the same name.

    2) The process uses a temp table and sometimes records get stuck, try restarting your SQL server if possible.

    3) There's also a quality issue on this as well (80562) that we discovered not to long ago under a very specific circumstance.

When you are creating the smartlist are you selecting a root folder for the correct dictionary first before clicking new or are you changing the product in the smartlist designer window? There is a number that is assigned on the backend and depending on how you open the smartlist designer window this could also be your problem.

The below steps illustrate how to create the issue.

    1) Create two smartlist designer smartlists against the dynamics.dic (GL, PM, RM etc are all in the Dynamics.dic)

    2) Select the root folder in smartlist window for something that is in a different DIC (FA for example). When you open the window it generates a unique identifier number (FavoriteType) on the backend for the module (so for example in this case the number would be 500 if it's your first smartlist designer smartlist for FA).

    3) When you try to save you will get the error.

The problem is when you change the product in the smartlist designer window it does not update some of the temp tables correctly. Because of this if you then tried to switch the product to "Microsoft Dynamics GP" it would still be using the number 500 even though it should be using 502 (assuming the two smartlists created in step 1 where the first two).

This causes the exact same error message as if the name itself was duplicated. The workaround for now is to make sure you select a root folder in the smartlist window for the correct module (product) before clicking new.

If you have any questions feel free to let me know!

I had the same issue, and it was caused by clicking NEW from a different folder (Analytical Accounting) than where I wanted it to be saved. Once SmartList Designer was open, I changed the PRODUCT/SERIES and the application does not like this. Instead, I had to click NEW from the "destination" folder where I want my new SmartList to appear.

Since I was trying to create a SmartList under SALES, once I started from SALES and then clicked NEW, I was able to successfully save my it-was-definitely-uniquely-named-the-whole-time SmartList.
