How to create planning line for a resource group?

Hi folks, I want to create a planning line at the resource group level, not by individual resources. How can I do this? By default, it appears that you can only select one of four types when creating a planning line, resource, item, GL account or text.

I want to create a planning line for an entire resource group.

I want to collect usage by individual resources.

I also need the resource usage to be linked to the planning line at the resource group level.

How would i do this? Thank you in advance for your insight.

Basically, you can't. The out-of-the-box way to handle this would be to create a dummy Resource within the Resource Group then assign the dummy Resource on the Project Planning Line.

When you are posting actual time, you can use the actual Resources in the Project Journal. Through reporting you can report on the Resource Groups planned time verse actual time by Project/Task.

The use of a Resource Group on the Project Planning Line would require a Customization. This would make for a good suggestion on Microsoft's Ideas forum to treat Resource Groups and Resources similar to Work Center/Machine Center relationship in Production.

Hello,
In Business Central, creating a planning line specifically for a resource group instead of individual resources is not supported by out-of-the-box functionality. The system allows planning lines to be created only for type resources, items, G/L accounts, or text. It seems that customization would be necessary to extend the standard functionality if you want to add a Resource Group option in the Type field and manage all the Resource Group related processes and transaction through customization after adding this option in Type field.
