Opportunity Module: Diff Sales Stage for diff product - CRM 2011

Under opportunity module, because we sell different products we can have different sales stage, how do I show different sales stages for different opportunity product?

I would also love to hear what other business user implemented? Some suggested to use broad definition of sale stages; but what if my user of a certain department wants granular tracking: 1) In Progress - Pending Doc 2) In Progress - Pending Credit 3) In Progress - Pending Review

    It depends upon the number of stage and products combinations you have. You can use different process flows based on the product selected. I would suggest creating a configuration entity in which you can store the combinations of products, process flows and stage name. When the product is added, search the configuration using product and set the BPF and appropriate stage.
