Hi techies,

We have a requirement where we need to migrate historical customer transactions(directly posted transactions) into AX7.

What are the best possible ways we could dump the data in?

Can anyone please suggest me a way to achieve this, thanks in advance!

At the moment you do not have data upgrade scripts for historical data. Microsoft will release data upgrade scripts most likely with the coming Spring Release update for D365fO. The scripts are currently being trialed with selected customers and partners,

    Hi Sangram Shinde,

By mentioning historical transactions, do you refer to open customer, vendor ... transactions or also those that have already been settled?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Hi Ludwig - Thanks for the reply.

As of now we are analyzing it for SO and SO should include the inventory item details as well because they want to display these details on their reports. But they need to import these posted transactions as it is. We can't import them as open and then do invoice and rest process. So what would be a way to do this.

Thanks Vilmos for useful reply, when do we expect this Spring release update from Microsoft.

Thanks Vilmos - But I don't think it would be helpful in our case as client has their own legacy system

    Hi Sangram Shinde,

Why is the transfer of historical SO related transactions required?

I mean wouldn't it be sufficient to transfer only open/new SO?

Transferring historical data with all the related stuff is quite complex and I cannot see much value added by doing this.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Those might requires them for reporting/printing purpose and all they want in a single system i.e. in AX. Also with this there are transactions of GL, PO as well - that needs to be migrated!

You also misunderstood as well, while have forgotten to mention that your source system is not AX. The data upgrade scripts are only for AX from a previous version, and will be released in the future. They do not support legacy systems.

It is not common at all to import such historical transactions, instead the legacy system should be available for the period until your country's legal compliance requires you to keep historical data in case of an audit. The typical implementation only brings in master data and opening transaction, that is why historical data generation is not supported.

    Hi,

I would recommend that you rethink the approach of bringing historical data from a different ERP system. Trying to migrate those data can quickly become a nightmare especially when it comes to transferring things that are handled differently in AX. Also think about erroneous transactions that were somehow fixed in your old system and how you want to migrate them.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
