Reseller / Partner Access to Customer Environment

What is policy of Microsoft regarding Partners access to customer BC environments?

Specifically, should the partner use their own license(s) to gain access for changes / training / etc, or is it the responsibility of the client to maintain a license(s) for the Partner?

Thanks in advance

For Business Central SaaS you can find the policy here:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../delegated-admin

For Business Central on-premise the partner will have it's own license that can be used.

    Inge,

Thanks very much for the reply. Here is the summary of my interpretation of the policy to which you linked:

    1. The Partner pays for and maintains their own subscriptions.

    2. They can manage always manage their customer's subscriptions.

    3. If the Partner needs access to a customer's BC environment:

       a. Partner sets up their own employees to work in Partner Center and assign (Partner) employees to support given customer(s), choosing the appropriate selection for the "Assists your customers as" field .

       b. Partner chooses to "include delegated administration privileges for Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) and Office 365" during their request (for) a reseller relationship with a customer (via email request).

      c. Customer grants the delegated administration privilege to a partner.

With some limitations, the Partner now has access to the customer's full BC environment and the customer does NOT have pay for an extra subscription so that the Partner can gain access when needed, NOR should the Customer have to share their own licenses when the Partner needs access.

Please let me know if this is accurate.

    Appreciatively,

    antmas

Correct.  We are a Partner and our clients do not pay for our support Users.  This means we can access their environment for support and review without additional licensing cost for our clients.  The license type is assigned when we access our client's SAAS environment via Partner Center.

The same is true for On-Premise, but you have to define the license type.  Again, no additional licensing cost to our clients.

That is correct. Customers should not be charged for partners access to their Business Central environment either online or on-prem.

Other external users that are not a CSP partner for Business Central might require license.
