We have a problem with dex.ini being changed during updates. The paths to OLE and Letters get changed back to the local machine instead of pointing to the network share. Is there any way to change that "feature"?

Mahmoud,
We haven't tried using the installation package for quite awhile. What I remember is that when the user logged in they did not have rights to install a program on their computer. We would have to log in as administrator, so we just used the original update file. We also had a problem when we used the installation package (this was several versions ago), where the package was the wrong type and it would not automatically run.
I guess we should try the installation package again because if it does work, it will save us from having to change the dex.ini file on the workstations.
Thanks for the information.
You are absolutely right Mr. Bob, your case is a bit different as it is not related to a new installation. Although, you have just mentioned the way, both of the options are valid and doable.
Apologies as I have not got your point precisely regarding the installation package, would you please be a bit clearer.
Your feedback is highly appreciated,
Mohamoud does a good job of explaining the dex.ini. However, this update was not a new install. nor was it to a different folder and the settings were still changed. So it looks like I have two options. 1). manually change the OLE and Letter paths back to the correct ones or 2). save and copy the old dex.ini back and make the changes that Mahamoud outlines, so it is six of one half dozen of the other.
We haven't tried the installation package method recently (user don't have the rights to run it themselves anyway.). Does that leave the workstation dex.ini intact?
Hi,
Mohamoud has given you a great link - as always, David takes us by the hand and walks us to salvation. I want to emphasis that if you create an installation package for your workstations, you will not have the problem. I agree it's frustrating, but we at least have a way around it.
Kind regards,
Leslie
