tell me the difference between a IVA and IVT transaction - how are they initiated?

We are doing an inventory analysis. Can someone tell me the difference between a IVA and IVT transaction? Also, these transactions show as GJ transactions with no way to drill down to where they came from. Where can I go to see how they are initiated?

IVT = Inventory Transfer

IVA = Inventory adjustment

Inventory Transfers are when you transfer quantities of an item between sites {Transactions >> Inventory >> Inventory Transfer]. Inventory Adjustments are when you increase or decrease the quantity of a stock item - eithre to reflect the purchase or sale of a quantity if you are not using SOP / POP...or to reflect a change in the quantity for some other reason such as stock loss...or the results of a stock take.

Inventory transfers may result in a GL Journal if for example you track the stock in different sites to different GL codes. Inventory Adjustments will nearly always result in a GL posting as you are increasing / decreasing stock levels [unless you value the adjustment at zero].

Inventory Transfer also used to transfer inventory between different types, for example, from On Hand to Damaged. It also will result in GL transactions if you are using different accounts for those inventory types.
