Hi Denys,
Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Forum.
The Tax Area Code is typically used in the North America Version for managing Sales Tax. It is not used for VAT environements that I am aware of.
In the US and Canada, Tax Jurisdictions are the Tax Authorities, such as a State, County, or City in the US and the Federal GST and Provinces in CA. Multiple Tax Jurisdiction may be grouped into a Tax Aree Code based on a location. The Tax Area code is then assigned to Customers and Vendors (or possibly the Locaiton Code) for managing which Tax Jurisdictions are going to tax the sale or purchase.
The Tax Jurisdictions are then combined with Tax Group Codes (assigned to Items/Resources/GL Accounts) in Tax Details to identify the appropriate sales tax rate for charging tax on the transaction.
Please find further information at the following Docs site for further details: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-nav-app/localfunctionality/unitedstates/us-sales-tax
The information should help get you started.
Thank you.
