Creating Reports using Power BI

Hi experts, a quick question on creating the reports (we have not subscribed the BC365 yet). If we use Power BI, do we need to add the code behind? What is the best and quickest way of creating customized reports?

Thank you!

I have the same question (0)

You do not have to add any Code-behind in Business Central if that is what you are asking.

But you need to do perform Configuration for you to add Power BI reports in D365BC.

    Check this link: docs.microsoft.com/.../admin-powerbi

In order to create the report, which Power BI plan will suffice? Thank you!

It depends on what you want. The Power BI desktop is free, but only for single user. That means you can't share your Power BI with other users.

After the report is created from BI, is there any way to import the report to the system? Or is the Power BI connected already with BC365 and there is not need to import? Thank you!

You can use Power BI Desktop to create report(s) and a Power BI subscription (Pro) to 'share' reports and dashboard. The free subscription can also be used to create dashboards, but without sharing.

You can use the PBI connector for Business Central to connect to BC and import data using the API, but imho it's much better to create good, fast, scalable, dedicated queries using the development environment, otherwise your report will become: slow and complex to maintain.

BC can embedd Power BI reports published to the default workspace.

And fyi, you can't have 'best' and 'quick' in the same sentence when it comes down to creating customized reports. Quick is possible, but that won't be fast/scalable/good. 'Best' takes time to think about and create good queries, a data model and report(s) and dashboards.
