Dynamics 365 (on prem): Black and broken Main Menu Bar

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello Folks,

after (in place) Upgrading CRM 2011 to 2013 to 2015 to 2016 to Dynamics 365 I noticed a black and broken Main Menu Bar. Is that a known issue or is there any known solution to fix that up? Some Text and Symbols are missing too. The problem exist on multiple Computers and multiple Browsers.

PS. After the initial update to Dynamics 365, you can re-import the database (having completed your testing) and the UI remains the same.

    Hi Juge,

I've seen the same thing several times with the upgrade sequence you described (2011 ==> 2016 or D365). The way I found to resolve it was to install the target system up to 2016 Update 1, not D635, and then import the database into that system. After the database upgrade, applying the Dynamics 365 update (with it's UI changes) fixes most of the issues. There are a couple of things that are not 100% correct (the padlock icon for locked fields is very faint), but it's definitely useable.

    Cheers,

    John

    Hi there,

If this is a test environment, it might be worth trying to import the default sitemap / ribbon onto your Dynamics 365 solution. Make sure you back up your current sitemap first.

The default ribbon definitions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 can be found in the SDK package:

    SDK\Resources\ExportedRibbonXml.

The applicationRibbon.xml file contains the definition of the core application ribbons.

The remaining files contain the definitions used by entities that have ribbon definitions that differ from the entity template. Each file is named according to the name of the entity: logical entity name + Ribbon.xml.

You can download the SDK from the following link:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

    More information here:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334699.aspx

Hope this helps! Please mark "verify answer" if you found this response helpful.

H! I Created a custom design and the faulty menu is still there, but I noticed that it works niceley in Microsoft Edge Browser. Error exists with multiple Versions of Internet Explorer.

Edit: Firefox works too, seem that I was to quick with my new thread here. I'am sorry! Happy easter and all the best for you.

    Hi Juge,

What happens if you try applying a custom theme with different colours to your instance, does the same issue occur?

Also, what browsers have you tested on?

    Regards

    Joe
