WennSoft vs. GP’s Project Accounting

Hi Everyone,

The company I work for currently uses WennSoft for all of our project tracking needs. We’ve been using this tool for quite a long time (longer than most of the accounting staff has been here) and we’re not 100% sure if it’s the best tool for us to be using. We recently heard that there is an application in Great Plains called Project Accounting, and we are wondering if it may be a better fit for our needs. Would someone be able to give me a brief overview of the major differences between these two applications so we can decide if we need to look into this in more detail?

    That is a great question and the answer is it all depends.  I spent about 15 years implementing WennSoft products as a consultant for WennSoft.  I am now an admin for a company that uses Project Accounting.  The company I am at now is a professional services company in the IT industry.  There are vast differences between the modules.  In reality Project Accounting has a small amount of functionality compared to WennSoft Job Cost.  Project Accounting in my opinion is not a big priority for Microsoft as little changes from version to version unlike WennSoft.  Depending on your needs if I could use Project Accounting I would but it truly depends on your industry and needs.  For example if you are in the construction industry and have complex long running jobs with change orders and reforecasting needs maybe some AIA billing requirements WennSoft would be the best option.  If you wish to discuss in detail let me know I would be happy to discuss.

    Thanks for the quick response. I think your response confirms our suspicions that Project Accounting is less functional than WennSoft. I believe for now that this is all the information we need, but if I have any other questions I'll be sure to contact you. Thanks for your help!
