How to set up Microsoft CRM for Outlook to be accessed remotely?

Hi all,

 

I have a static IP Address through which i am able to access the CRM through my I.E.

However when i configure CRM for outlook, select An Online service provider and provide the IP address, i am getting an error.

 Can somebody direct me in the correct direction on setting this up in outlook.

Note: I have not set up an IFD on the CRM Server.

    If you want to setup crm to be accessible via the Internet with teh outlook client you will need to setup IFD with the ifdconfig tool. Also - I highly recommend purchasing and installing an SSL certificate.

    In addition to the IFD, if you have a VPN in place, you can access through the VPN connection.

    Correct.  If you have vpn and want everyone to use vpn then you do not need to setup ifd.  However, be sure everyone is logging with an account of the domain and NOT the local workstation.

    Dear Alex,

     

    Thanks for your reply. However my confusion is how the public IP address will resolve and point to Crm Server. How will i be able to access the CRM Server through internet. Will i have to type http://publicipaddress. Can you shed some light into this. Do you have a step by step document other than IFD document.
